Also want to mention that I had a new battery installed in 2013 within the warranty period and did an SSD upgrade on my own.

I'd like to get 2-3 more years of use out of this 2010 MBP.Įdit: Wanted to clarify that I can install Yosemite back onto it before bringing it to the Apple store. I just feel this just wears out the hardware even more. I am able to install Xubuntu linux onto it, which seems okay, but it does heat up with fans getting pretty loud. I'm aware of gfxCardStatus, but I'd rather not go that route. This 2010 MBP is no longer my main computer, but I would like it as a functional second computer. If the fix was under $100, I would bring it in. I could bring it into Apple and see what they could do, but I read that they offer a $300+ fix for it since it is out of warranty and the eligibility period has ended.įor those of you that have brought theirs in and had it fixed, has it worked?ĭo they really address/fix the issue, or do they simply replace the defective hardware with the same, wherein the problem will arise again in a few years?

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro (MBP) with OS X Mavericks that started getting GPU panic issues where it would crash and restart almost daily. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
